Lucy Hughes

Lucy Hughes graduated from High School in Spearfish, SD in 1964, received her BS in English and Business at Black Hills State College in 1968, her MSE as a reading specialist in 1980 from Drake University in Des Moines and her EdD in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Administration in 1982 also from Drake University. She spent 38 years in education teaching 7 years in elementary, 7 years in secondary, 9 years as adjunct professor at Drake University, 1 year as Master Teacher at Iowa State University and 18 years as an elementary school principal in Des Moines, IA.

She has worked at Ultimate Hearing since retirement as an educator, and is currently working out of our Des Moines Corporate Office as a Patient Care Coordinator. Lucy loves seeing people’s eyes grow big and light up when they again hear certain things for the first time in a long while. Her Aunt Lucille was a perfect example of a person who grew quiet because she couldn’t hear and join in on the conversation. Once she had hearing aids, she became her old self once more. What a joy to see people participate fully in life again!
